Finalizing the Case—Frequently Asked Questions

During this time the final few matters of the case are settled.

While negotiations between the parties and attorneys do not necessarily go on for the entire two-month or six-month waiting period, there are usually significant and sometimes intense negotiations in preparation for finalization. Once these matters are decided, a final judgment is written and submitted to the Judge assigned to the case, who will then review it and likely sign the judgment. Once signed, the marriage relationship is legally terminated. Any changes to the divorce judgment in the future must be done by petitioning the court.
